Overview

This one-day introduction (split over 2 days) is designed for those looking to enhance their own skill set or elevate their business.

We will support you to reflect upon what it is you might need to do differently. We’ll help you identify who is key to your services or the experiences you provide.

We’ll cover
  • An introduction to good services, and what makes a good service
  • Service design principles and approaches
  • Find your starting point (where you/your organisation is right now)
  • Discover what you need to do differently
  • Mapping the people around you and those who are key to your service delivery
  • ‘Seeing’ the services your customers receive from you and building from there

Who is it for?

This course is for anyone who hasn’t used Service Design before and wants an energetic, hands-on and insightful introduction to the design principles and the mindset that underpins service design.

You might be:

  • A business owner wanting to elevate the service you provide to your customers with a new approach that puts their needs at the very centre
  • Someone who works closely with people or communities and needs to formalise your collaborative skills by understanding more about service design
  • Looking to improve customer experiences to lead to sustainable, successful outcomes for all
  • An organisational leader who works beside designers or service deliverers and wants to become an advocate of the service design approach to business

How will I benefit?

You’ll leave this activity-led and highly interactive short course inspired with the value of service design and equipped with a plan for you and your organisation going forward to deliver great user centred experiences.

You can take forward into your own practice or your workplace culture, an ability to really ‘see’ the services your customers receive from you and build from there.

You’ll try out proven tools and develop real life skills to bring service design into your role/organisation.

Funding

SME’s and Levy Payers in Scotland can apply for funding for Service Design training through the Flexible Workforce Development Fund at Dundee and Angus College. Successful SME’s get £5,000 and Levy Payers have £15,000 to spend.

Will I be charged VAT?

As a provider of education, we do not charge, and you do not pay VAT for training with the Service Design Academy.

How do SDA Online Courses work?

Equipment: You need a computer with fast and reliable connection to the internet, webcam and a microphone and speakers or a headset.

Tools: access is easy and universal using industry-standard and web-based tools. We use Zoom with a secure educators account, exercises take place on Miro. Both tools are available through Chrome browser and we recommend using Chrome for the best experience.

Teaching: this is a live course, taught in real-time. It is not a self-paced, online tutorial but a highly interactive and fast paced course delivered by experts in the field of service design.

Accreditation

The Service Design Academy is the only organisation in the world accredited by the Service Design Network which means our courses are accredited by them and our Consultants are accredited to Master or Practitioner level. Your course certificate is accredited by SDA and the Service Design Network, a driver of global growth, development and innovation within the practice of service design.

Is the course taught in different languages?

All courses are taught in English and we recommend you have good basic English skills to get the most out of your course.
